Fact Is...

Fact: I don't think there is any way on earth I'll be ready for my 10K in a month. These shin splints and I are at odds about this whole experience. Its lame.

Myth: I can run five miles consistently while singing "Call Me Maybe" (not that I know all the words or anything....)

Fact: I have to come up with an alternative way of working out without murdering my shins (I've thought about it, but then I realized I don't have the admirable lizard quality of regrowing limbs). Last year I got into the best shape of my life while doing P90X and Yoga (not the P90X yoga, a different one). So that's the plan. I looked and felt amazing. I was confident and my body was strong. So I am going back to that plan. It really worked!

Myth: I once ate an entire lasagna.

Fact: Sometimes I struggle with how in the world I am supposed to have a healthy self image, especially when it comes to working out. You see, I know I've been writing a posts about healthy body image and working out for the right reasons. And I can honestly say I am doing so much better. But I still get really frustrated because I know I am not doing my personal best. Remember how I said last year I was in the best shape of my life? I want to be back there. I was so healthy! I was in shape. Really, really good shape. I had to go out and buy new clothes cause mine were too big! I don't fit in any of them any more.

I guess what I am trying to say is I am trying to go about this in a healthy way. I want to look my best (which I think is healthy, as long as I am not comparing my best to someone else's best. See the difference?) and I want to fit back into those clothes from when I was in such good shape. I know I can do it (I did it before!). But I need to keep my focus healthy! I don't think it is bad to want to be where I was... (and I have all these adorable jeans I want to fit into!). Do I sound hypocritical? Writing helps me figure things out, and that is what I am trying to do now...

Myth: I enjoy eating tacos in the rain.

Fact: I think the word "squat" is an incredibly ugly and horrible word. And a terribly hard exercise to do repeatedly.

Myth: I once ate an entire banana.

So there you have it. How do you think I should approach this whole "wanting to fit in my skinny skinny-jeans" dilemma? I still want to be a good example to others and myself by staying true to me. But I really do want to be smaller and fit into smaller clothes. I don't feel that I will have greater worth if I am back to a Size 6 (what used to be my ultimate and once reached goal). I just know that I will 1) be healthier and more active. b) have more jeans to wear. c) feel more attractive.

Any ways, I'll stop rambling... (but seriously, I would love some feedback guys!)

  1. Squat is a pretty horrible word...it only gets worse when paired with another world to form the description "squat toilet."

    :P
Exercise is good--feeling healthy is good--being too worried over it is what I would avoid. I try to exercise regularly because otherwise I get back pain...but I am not one of those people who enjoy exercising so it's really hard to feel enthusiastic about it!

    1. "squat toilet" how awful! Funny thing, I love exercising. I love how I feel afterwards. I guess it is just fitting it into my day... But I agree, you can't let yourself get too wrapped up in things.

  2. Oh Jeannie! I just love how real you really are! You tell things like they really are and you don't hold back! I greatly admire that! Trust me, I know how ya feel when it comes to wanting to wear a smaller size and be at your ideal weight! I almost achieved that a couple of years ago *but then got pregnant and my body has never been the same again! I know you may not see yourself as gorgeous at times but you really are! I always thought you were one of the most beautiful women in the world! *and I have known a lot of women in my lifetime! I admire the way you can even do a 10K, whether you run it or walk it! That in itself is quite an accomplishment! I love ya and hope you feel you are beautiful everyday!

  3. For some reason, gym clothes make me feel fat! Then I don't want to work out! We bought the P90X, but I hated it. Way too time consuming! Plus, I did it for a month and never lost anything! How soon did you see results?
    Dropping in from the link-up!

    1. I started seeing results with P90X after about two weeks, but everybody is different. My friend who was doing it with me was losing inches faster than I was. Everyone is different. I personally love Tony (he makes me laugh) but it can be time consuming. And I'll tell you a secret... I only did the workouts I liked. My favorites: Core Synergistic, Cardio, Yoga, Legs. I hated the plyometrics (too hard on my knees) and felt ridiculous trying to do kenpo.

I'm so glad you found me! Thanks for stopping by.

  4. Always love your posts.
I think we're really accustomed to comparing ourselves to others, so I like what you said--to try to be YOUR best self. I think being at your personal absolute healthiest is really important; as long as it doesn't become obsessive or belittling if you slip up..which is advice I desperately need to take myself! Ha.
    Good luck dear!

  5. Even if it is a myth, the tacos in the rain was so random, it made me giggle. One of the best pieces advice I could give you is not to listen to others. No, not regarding their criticism, but there are people that WILL say "you look great as you are, don't kill yourself trying to get skinnier!" But if it makes you feel better, then do it! And do whatever you feel like is within your reasonable limits.

Personally, I lift soup cans while I'm watching TV. It's not strenuous, but still manages to create a lean tone to my arms.

    All the best!

    Sincerely,
    Sabrina

    1. Thanks Sabrina. Your blog is so cute! I like the whole lifting while watching tv idea... good one. And, it is indeed a myth. I do not eat tacos in the rain. Can you imagine eating a soggy taco? Gross!

  6. Hey! You should totally document your P90x journey. I think it would be fun and provide you with some sort of accountability. I'm dying to try it out!
